Environmental damaged caused by deforestation.
Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if
you kindly allow me to express through the columns of your esteemed daily about
the problem of Environmental damaged caused by deforestation.
Trees take a major role to keep
balance of our environment. The environment is gradually degrading due to the
thoughtless feeling of modern generation. Trees keep our environment pure and
pollution free. Besides, they bring rains, prevent floods, stop soil erosion,
maintain balance of oxygen and carbon-di-oxide in the atmosphere. Trees are cut
to obtain timber to make paper, to provide fuel and to get more land for
agricultural, industrial and residential purposes. This deforestation leads to
the extinction of many animals and plant species. Massive deforestation causes
droughts, flood, natural calamities and upsets the ecological balance. We
should aware of the major problem and stop feeling of trees for future
generation on this beautiful earth.
Under the above circumstances I, therefore,
request you to write the leading article on the tropic so that the government

Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if you

bad condition of local hospital.
The condition of the hospital in
our locality is deplorable. It is the only source of medical help of at least
twenty villages. But the hospital is dirty, unhygienic and mismanaged. The
doctors are irregular and busy in private practice. The nurses are not always
sympathetic and callous in their duties. Occasionally the patients have to lie
on the floor or allotted two patients in a bed. The foods are inedible. The
X-ray machine is out of order. The cats and dogs stay here and there. In a
brief, the condition is very miserable.

Sir,
I
shall be highly obliged if you kindly allow me to express through the columns

views about the hazards of plastic or polymers.
The use of plastic or polymers carry bags
has become extremely popular. Plastic bags are cheap and very light to bear. So
people are becoming fond of using them. We use plastic bags for carrying food
items, vegetables, clothes and medicines what not ? But we are not aware of the
hazards. Polymer is a non-destructible substance. It is made of harmful toxic
chemicals like chromium, nickel, copper and poisonous colours. It can neither
be burnt buried. They prevent the growth of agriculture. They pollute both land
and water. Plastic choke the drains, create favourable mosquito breeding ground.
They destroy the fertility of the soil. The gases emitted from burnt plastic
are caused of asthma, cancer and skin diseases. They also cause serious dumping
problem.

circumstances I, therefore, request you to write the leading article on the

Sir,
I shall be highly happy if
you kindly publish my letter in your English Daily newspaper.
The cell phone is the latest
gift of the science in the modern age. In this age we can not pass a day
without the use of this gift. But this gift is not used properly. A large
number of young people are found talking over the cell phone while crossing the
roads or railway lines or driving moter cycles, buses, taxies etc. For this,
many people die in accidents. But the users of the cell phones are careless.
But indiscriminate use of mobile phone is seldom becoming a cause for disgust
and trouble. It kills their times and makes them crazy. The radiation of
harmful rays may cause brain, throat tumour. The towers that send signals to
mobile badly affect animal and plant life also.
The Government should take
an immediate step to punish them who will talk over cell phones while crossing
the roads or railway lines or driving the different types of vechiles.

succeed in the J.E.E. and join in the branch of this course in a college either
in his own city or in an institution far away institution he or she is
subjected to ragging by the senior students of the same college. Ragging, as is
known today is one of the nastiest cultures in which the seniors welcome the
newcomers. From severe physical and mental torture to ugliest methods they are
subjected to is beyond the dream of the savage society. The physical and mental
shock that they encounter in the beginning of their studies dry up all their
ambition and they are often compelled to come back to their homes. The culture
of ragging is not only shameful but also it is barbarous and devoid of all possible

Sir,

the problem by high price of essential commodities.
The price of essential
commodities are increasing day by day in a galloping speed. Rice sells at
Rupees 36 per Kilo, meat sells 400 per kilo, mustard oil sells 110 a litre etc.
The medicine are beyond the purchasing power of the patients. The price of
petrol, diesel, l.p.g. gas are going up in every month. The prices of
vegetables, edible oil, cloths, and other essential commodities are also going
up. As a result , poor and middle class people suffer most. In my opinion, the
black marketers and dishonest businessmen are responsible for the condition.
Less productions is also a cause for price rise.

For the last few years some
anti-social elements have been in operation in our town. They appear to have no

after dusk. Sometimes they move about with revolvers and bombs and private
properties on flimsy issues. Recently these anti-social have committed a daring
robbery of Rs. 15 lakhs and killed a guard in the action. Though the incident
was reported to the police and the shop keeper named the criminals he
suspected, no one has been arrested so far. The robbers are roaming freely in

Sub: The dowry system in our society
Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if you kindly allow
me to express my views through the columns of your esteemed daily about the
dowry system in our society.
It was quite alarming to find reports of
three incidents of dowry deaths on three consecutive days in your newspaper.
Even after decades of protests and movements dowry has remained a deciding
factor in most marriages in India. It was interesting to note that, although
both demanding and giving dowry are illegal, in each of these cases the bride’s
guardians had initially accepted the demands of the groom and his family. It is
only after the unnatural death of the bride that they came to the law for
justice. In fact ever since the laws prohibiting dowry have been enforced, the
judiciary has been able to prosecute the culprit only in a few cases of dowry
deaths, but the system has not been eradicated.
The only way to root it out is to generate
public resistance against it and at the same time pass far stricter laws and
ensure that they are enforced and offenders are punished.

the same sensation in my mind.
It is an
experience to see such a classical film. You must have gone through the novel
of Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay. So I need not discuss any thing about its
theme. I want to say that the director has made the novel alive with his magic
touch. The character like Apu, Durga, Sarbajaya and the grand old Indira Thakrun
easily win out hearts. We are simply amazed to see how natural character of
Indira Thakrun and our hearts felt with pathos to find her dead. The film
brings to us the essentiality of rural life. The film ends but leaves a lasting
impression on mind of the audience.
In a
word, “Pather Panchali” is the gem of a classic creation. You must try to see
it immediately and write to me your experience about it, if you have a chance

Sir,
Let me thank you for your editorial on the recent outbreak of malaria in
West Bengal. Almost forgotten in the late 70s and 80s, this disease has become
a major killer in 2016, especially in the eastern part of India. The sudden
upsurge of malignant malaria in our state in the last few years has left us
helpless. In many cases the patients die even before the disease is detected.
It was correctly pointed out in the article that the measures taken by the
Government in order to fight malaria is woefully inadequate. But unfortunately
one important aspect was overlooked in the article. It would be very helpful
for everybody if you publish an article providing information about hospitals

Dear Bir Bahadur,
I
am very glad to receive your letter after a long interval. It is news to me
that you have developed the hobby of gardening. It is indeed an excellent
hobby. You have asked me if I have any. I do not know whether you will call
reading poems a hobby. Yet, that is perhaps the only thing that gives me the
greatest pleasure.
Man’s
life on this earth is, as we are well aware, full of sorrow and suffering. I
think there is one golden remedy for this. If one reads a good poem all alone,
one is sure to forget one’s suffering for the time being. In the quite of
evening I take up a volume of Tagore’s Works and turn over its pages reciting
this poem or that as my fancy chooses. This makes my sorrow and suffering less
painful. It has also helped me to form the habit of finding out the good and
the beautiful in all that I meet.
You
will always find a book of poems under my copy of Algebra or Geometry or
English Grammar. In fact, I can never part with my dearest companion. In
between more serious studies I always peep into it and refresh my mind. It is
indeed, an excellent pick-me-up.
Do please try it yourself and let me know how
you feel.
Hope
this will find you in the best of spirits. With love,

Dear Raju,
I have heard a lot of your country, learnt people in your country. They

But India is quite different. Both, the people and their nature of India are in
my heart. You know here the people are of distinct nature. It’s a land of
diversity and at the same time, there is firm unity in diversity. Regarding
geographical features we can say India is a miniature form of the world. Here
we have the ocean, the sea, the mountains, hills, forests, deserts and carpet
like plants. Multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural land is India
that bears rich cultural, historical, architectural and spiritual heritage. It
has wide range of flora and fauna. Above all the people of India are social, charitable, religious,
devotional, cordial, amicable, informal in nature. They are fond of festivals
and religious ceremony. Though at present crime and corruption have been a
trend among a section of power-monger politicians, India is full of good
peoples. They know how to welcome, love, extend charity and offer shelter. For
its man with broadness and nature with bounty I am proud of and wish to born on

Sub: Multi-storied building collapses
Sir,
The memory of the collapse of a multi-storied building a few years ago
at Bhowanipur has not yet faded. Now the
six-storeyed Shibalik which was built only ten years ago on Lansdowne Road
collapsed like a castle of playing cards at about 3.45 a.m. when some of the
residents were sleeping their last sleep. It is the fourth such tragedy in the
last six years. Of course, the police, the fire brigade and local volunteers
have rescued some injured persons from the debris. But this should not be any
consolation. At first it was said that the weight of the marbles on the floors
and gardening on the roof caused the Shibalik collapse. But it is now being
suspected that the low-quality building materials, faulty plan and the
corporation-promoter alliance are at the bottom of every such tragic happening.
Some committees would perhaps be hushed up in course of time.
The whole country is shocked and grieved at the collapse of the Shibalik
building. Today we appeal to the sensibilities of all citizens not to remain
unconcerned or indifferent. And not only strict laws should be laid down but
their enforcement should be guaranteed and offenders should be punished.

Know , I had a long-cherished desire to visit Delhi and Agra as these are
places of great historical interest. My parents agreed to take me to Delhi
during last Puja vacation. Naturally my joy knew no bounds. We reached Delhi by
Rajdhani express and lodged in a hotel for a week. From the first day we
started going out for sightseeing.
I
saw there the Red Fort, the Moti Masjid, the Jumma Masjid, the Dewan-i-khas,
the Dewani-i-am and the Qutub Minar. I also visited the Parliament House,
the Jantar Mantar, Shantiban, the
Rajghat, the Vijayghat, the Rashtrapati Bhaban and India Gate. We also went to
Agra for two days. There we visited the Taj Mahal on a full moon night. It was
a dream in marble that left me simply spell-bound. The majestic beauty of the
Taj will for ever remain imprinted on my mind.
It
was a pity that we could stay in Delhi for only two weeks. I wish I could stay
there for at least a month and spend more time at the historical monuments.

Dear Erich,
I have just received your letter
containing a very lively description of the New York Book Fair. Reading your
letter made me feel as if I was walking through the fair along with you. You
have asked me to tell you about book fairs in Kolkata.
Holding
book fairs is a rather new concept in India. But nowadays book fairs are held
in all major cities every year. However, the largest and the most important one
is organized in Kolkata by the Publishers Booksellers Guild every year. Last
year I visited the Kolkata Book Fair which was being held at the Maidan, the
usual venue for any fair or exposition organized in the city. There were about
five hundred bookstalls and thousands of books were displayed. It was a good
opportunity to see a wide range of books on various subjects from all over
India and abroad. Book-lovers crowded in the stalls to make their choices and
buy books. The main objective of the organizers was not only to sell books but
to display them—rare books and books of foreign publication in particular—and
reach out to as many people as possible. Moreover, many new books were released
during the fair.
I
was tempted to buy many books, but with my very limited budget I could afford
only a very few. But I collected catalogues from quite a few publishers to buy
books in future. Indeed a book fair spreads the message that books are our best
friends and companions that enlarge our vision and make our life more
meaningful.
Please
write to me about all your present interests.
With
best regards to you and all of your family,
Your
Sincerely,

week of September. Hundreds of houses had collapsed and the crops were washed
away. Many men and women had taken shelter on the branches of trees and in the
school and college buildings. They had lost their cattle, stock of food and
everything they had.
Every
where cries of distress reached our ears. We had to carry the water-logged
people in boats to a place of safety. We distributed dry food, clothes and
medicine among them. The State Government assured all sorts of help to the
victims. Welfare organizations like Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram
Sangha rendered great service to the flood victims. This experience has taught
me much more about life than all my years in school ever could.

building was beautifully decorated with red and green flags, leaves, flowers
and lights. It looked like a temple. There was a stage in the middle of the
school premises. A statue of Kaji Najrul Islam was kept on the stage. The Chief
Guest was the District School Inspector. The Secretary of the school garlanded
the statue of Kaji Najrul Islam. Then the programme started. The Headmaster of
the school delivered lectures on the ideals and thoughts of Kaji Najrul Islam.
He also requested all to follow the ideals and thoughts of Kaji Najrul Islam.
The District School Inspector described the works and life of Kaji Najrul
Islam. Then sweets were distributed among the spectators. Then the programme
ended with a Najrul Geeti.
I
hope you are well. At last You take my love.
Yours ever,
Rimi
28. Write a letter to your friend about
communal disharmony and the problem of Nation Integration in India.
My dear Pranab,
Indian
tradition is the tradition of unity in diversity. We do differ widely in terms
of language, region, food habit and social custom. Still we form a single
united nation. We are all Indians. But unfortunately the ideal of unity in
diversity is at stake now. Violence and separatist activities threaten national
integration.
Some
fanatics of a religious community often inspire a sense of impatience among
other members of the communities. Sometimes a group of narrow minded people, in
order to fulfill their self interests, spread the venom of separatism and
misled others. They are often encouraged by some enemy states and helped with
training, materials and money.
What
India needs now is strong administrative measure separatist activity. Mass
consciousness against the narrow minded leaders of separatism is even more
urgent. Illiteracy is also required to be removed, because illiterate people
are easily misled. People must also be made aware of the bad effects of
disintegration, and the necessity of remaining a united whole.
Yours sincerely,
Sumanta
29. Write a letter to your brother
about the utility of reading the daily newspaper.
My dear Palash,
I
was indeed relieved to learn that you secured very good marks in your 1st
terminal examination. But I was shocked to learn that you secured poor marks in
your General Knowledge paper, which according to me, was due to your poor
knowledge in current affairs in subject outside your syllabus.
My
dear bother, I should remind you that to shine in life, it is not enough for a
student only to know the subjects in your syllabus. You must be well equipped
with the General knowledge which a student can obtain enough by reading
newspaper daily. Newspaper is a medium which helps us to be acquainted with
knowledge both national and international. It is a storehouse of General
knowledge about affairs of our country and of the world outside. Side by-side
with it a student can enrich his vocabulary which helps him to enhance his
writing proficiency. Therefore reading newspapers has two fold utility. We may
be well-versed as in global problems. So we can learn how the world is progressing
in educational, Political, economical sphere. A student can sharpen his
knowledge by reading newspapers daily. So I would advice you to start reading
daily newspaper without delay.
Yours
ever,
Baishakhi
30. The anniversary of a great
man(Rabindra Jayanti)
My dear Arati,
You
will be glad to know that we performed the Rabindra Jayanti in our school on
Sunday last. A large photo of the Gurudev was placed on a table in the hall.
The function began with the chanting of Vedic hymns by our Assistant
Headmistress. Then offerings of flowers and garlands accompanied with the
burning of incense and blowing of conch were made by few girls. Two of our
teachers spoke on the solemnity of the occasion and on the indebtedness of the
nation to the Gurudev. Recitations and songs came last in which the performance
of some of the girl was simply charming. In her concluding speech the
Headmistress likened the Gurudev to an ocean. Quoting Newton she remarked that
all we had yet gathered about him were mere pebbles thrown up ashore, while the
ocean itself remained unexplored in its vastness and majesty before us.
Indeed
it was a very successful ceremony, enriching both our mind and soul.
Accept
my sincere love.
Your
sincerely,
Anjali
