A Rainy Day
A rainy day is a
great experience. It is really a very rare happening. Such a day came last
Friday. The sky was very cloudy since morning. There were frequent flashes of
lightning. Thunders were roaring every now and then. There was deterioration in
the condition of weather as the day went on. It started raining around 9
O’clock. It was raining cats and dogs. My parents parent could not think of
sending me to school. This made me really very happy. I stayed at home and
enjoyed the beauty of rain outside through the window. My mother made
hodge-podge, an ideal food for a rainy weather. We listened to Tagore’s songs
on the rains on the tape-recorder. It seemed that there would be no stop of
rain. The roads, parks and ponds went under water. Buses and other vehicles
stopped running on the roads. However there was much improvement in the weather
the evening. Then local children were found floating paper boats. Some were
walking through the water. Thus, I enjoyed the rainy day very much.

Then we wash our teeth with brushes and paste. The morning newspaper brings the
whole world to our door. Electric or gas oven prepares our mid day meal. We go
to schools, colleges and offices by buses, trams, and trains. The electric fans
keep us cool on hot days. T.V., Computer, Mobile, relieve and relax us and
Internet gives us a lot of information just a click. Medicines have controlled death and diseases.
Thus, science greatly controls our daily life.

To a friend about the Annual sports in
your school.
Dear Soma,
The Annual Sports in our school were held on 5th
January last. I took part in long jump and 100 meters race. You will be happy
to know that I stood first in both these events. There were many other events
like high jump, javelin throw, cycle race, orange race and etc. But most
interesting was the tug-of-war between the teachers and the students. The
teachers won this event. Sri Manoranjan Bhattacharya, a great footballer, was
present as the chief guest. He gave away the prizes. I got a good water pot and
a Wing Sung pen.
No more today. With
love and good wishes,
Yours
ever,
Aparna
