Ans. It takes much time to kill a tree.
2. Why can’t a simple jab of the knife kill a tree?
Ans. A simple jab of the knife cannot kill the tree because it has grown by consuming nutrients from the earth and it is deep rooted.
3. What has the tree consumed and absorbed?/ How has a tree grown?/ What are the favourable things for the growth of a tree mentioned  in the poem ?
Ans. The tree has consumed the nutrients from the earth and absorbed sunlight, air and water for water for years.
4. What does the expression ‘leprous hide’ in the poem refer to?
Ans. The word ‘leprous hide’ refers to the discolored and rough bark of a tree.
5. From where do leaves sprout?
Ans. Leaves sprout from the tree’s rough bark.
6. “But this alone won’t do it.” –What does ‘this’ and ‘it’ refers to?
Ans. Here ‘this’ refers to hacking and chopping and ‘it’ refers to kill a tree.

Ans. If the ‘miniature boughs’ are unchecked, they will expand again and get back their original shapes.

Ans. The root of a tree is to be pulled out entirely from the deep earth.
Anchoring earth—refers to the soil which holds the roots firmly. Earth cave—is a hollow place made when the roots of tree are pulled out of the earth. The strength of tree lie – root. The steps to uproot the tree ---roping, tying and pulling.  12. What are the processes to destroy a tree completely? Ans. Browning, hardening, twisting and withering the root are the processes to destroy a tree completely.
